Stefan completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Stellenbosch with a BSc in Physical and Mathematical Analysis - a multi-disciplinary programme focussed on dynamic systems. He graduated with a PhD from Rhodes University where his research thesis focussed on modelling Pc3 pulsation intensity with artificial neural networks using solar wind parameters as input. Recent research is focussed on geomagnetically induced currents, VLF wave phenomena and geomagnetic storm prediction using novel machine learning techniques.
