Dr Tshimangadzo Matamba

Unit: SRA
Affiliation: SANSA
Position: Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Qualifications: PhD

Dr Tshimangadzo Merline Matamba completed her bachelor of science degree in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry in 2010 from the University of Venda. In 2010, she joined the National Astrophysics and Space Programme (NASSP) to pursue her BSc Honours at the University of Cape Town. In 2012 she joined South African National Space Agency (SANSA) as an intern working with Dr. Habarulema focusing on the statistical analysis of the Ionospheric F1 layer checking when it is present and not present using ground-based Ionosonde data. After the internship, she enrolled for an MSc degree in physics at Rhodes University in 2013 with a research topic titled: “statistical analysis of the ionospheric response during geomagnetic storm conditions over South Africa using ionosonde and GPS data”. She completed her MSc in 2015. In 2018 she graduated with her PhD in physics focusing on Space Weather impacts on the ionosphere using satellite and ground-based measurements during quiet and disturbed geomagnetic conditions with a research topic titled: “long term analysis of ionospheric response during geomagnetic storms over the African regions”. She has presented her research work in several national and international conferences and published her work in academic papers.

Currently she is a postdoctoral research fellow and her research focus is on Scintillation effects on navigation accuracy for aviation forecasting tool and the impacts of space weather on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).
