NATIONAL SPACE PROGRAMME
The major focus area for SANSA is the establishment of a National Space Programme for South Africa with a Space Vision 2030 to be implemented by 2012/2013.
More than 50 leading experts participated in the initial workshop held on 2 November 2011. They are now working on definingthe priority programs, and involve industry and important stakeholders in the process. More than 100 participants are already active on the shared working website contributing and debating the future National Space Program. These numbers are growing daily.
There are 40 individuals contracted to participate in the 4 working groups, representing all the primary participants in the fledgling space industry. The initial workshop concentrated on developing a workplan with specific required outputs and firm milestones to make sure that the tight schedule for the NSP is achieved. The workplans were agreed and all four expert groups have been working against this workplan. A collaboration tool (Alfresco) was put in place and contributions from the expert groups are developed making use of this shared workspace. This allows for contributions from all over the country to be shared immediately. The operationalisation of this shared workspace is an important contribution to the success of the NSP project.
