Dr Lee-Anne McKinnell

Dr Lee-Anne McKinnell is a Research Physicist at the Hermanus Magnetic Observatory (HMO), a Research Associate of Rhodes University and currently the Acting Managing Director of HMO. She specialises in ionospheric physics and space weather and currently Chairs the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) working group, from where her IRI modelling work has been incorporated into the global ionospheric model.

She is a member of the International Ionosonde Network Advisory Group (INAG) and an Associate Editor for Radio Science, a scientific journal that specialises in electromagnetic radio wave phenomena. Dr McKinnell is involved in capacity building programmes in Africa and was the recipient of three awards in 2009, including the African Union Regional Women Scientist Award for Basic Science Technology and Innovation in the Southern African Region. She graduated with a PhD from Rhodes University.
